The international dance community lost one of its great lights when Jennifer Muller passed on March 29, 2023. To acknowledge her creative force, her extraordinary contributions and her deeply felt absence, JMTW will present a celebration of Jennifer’s life and legacy at The Joyce Theater on November 6th, 2023. Friends, members of the dance community and generations of her company members will come together to honor Jennifer Muller with an evening of remembrances, historical footage and live performances.
In 1983, Jennifer told the New York Times “I’m not an abstractionist. A great deal of my work has a sense of celebration.”
We come together now to celebrate Jennifer, an artist who dedicated her life to her art, overcoming many obstacles along the way. She led with vision, perseverance and a steadfast belief in creativity as an essential aspect of human nature. Looking back on her countless contributions,
we celebrate her commitment to welcoming and connecting with a wide range of theatergoers, from newcomers to dance aficionados
we celebrate her immeasurable contributions to the lives of dancers – as performer, movement-maker, teacher, image-weaver and mentor to many
we celebrate her prolific outpouring of original, varied work, spanning more than five decades
we celebrate her extraordinary talents as performer, director, and choreographer
we celebrate her humor, her stubborn nature, her drama, her shared humanity
We celebrate her life and legacy.
This event is free to attend with RSVP. Join our family of dancers, alumni, collaborators, staff and friends as we remember and CELEBRATE our maverick of a leader, Jennifer Muller.
Address: The Joyce Theater, 175 Eighth Avenue (at 19th Street) New York, New York.

JMTW is self-producing this Celebration of Life, and we are turning to new friends and long-time supporters for help. We ask for assistance as we take on the theater crew expenses, dancer fees, costs to present archival footage of Jennifer, as well as expenses to broadcast a video of the evening worldwide.
Despite sizable production expenses, we aren't charging ticket fees to keep this event accessible for all of Jennifer's many friends and supporters. If you would like to help us, make a gift in honor of Jennifer.
